The Chester races are in full swing and if every other day was sunny, today it rained and rained. But of course nothing could dampen the spirits of the race goers! The people were out in full force, all armed with a brolley and their bet slips. A few of the favorites won. Ryan Moore obliged on Cliffs of Moher, just beating William Buick on Bay of Poets. Frankie Detorri shone on Western Hymn making sure Ryan was trumped into 2nd place. I celebrated my win singing and dancing amazing grace all over the farm. Poor Ryan again in the evening at Ascot suffered the sour taste of defeat when his Horse Graphite Storm expected to win , was by a short head into 2nd place by a 33/1 horse Hajij trained by C. Fellows & ridden by the talented handsome Irish jockey Stevie Donohoe .Horse racing also has its downsides. All over the news in the last few days featured jockeys losing their jobs with trainers but in a world where one person can't hold down one ride forever is well known. People become complacent. If trainer's and owners decide to have a new face riding their horse. It's their decision. So much for moaning it's a kick in the teeth for the people taking these decisions.
Today Harry Bentley gave a very graceful interview about his lost job with Jacobs. He's young and will move on stronger and better. Dougie Costello is also now showing how resilient he is, the first race at Chester today saw him win on Sound Advice, a 12/1 horse. Well done Dougie!
Friday is an awesome day. It welcomes the weekend. Today also saw the new Masterchef Champion crowned. The first time an Asian / British girl won (at least if I remembered correctly). A very talented junior doctor who has turned her hand to cooking and produced some of the best plates of food I've ever seen. A Pakistani girl who I suppose will now give up her job at Walford General job to go chefie full-time! In the Great British menu, first time winner through to the finals was Tom Brown who will represent the South West. Poor Dom after 3 times still couldn't hack it. What can I say, Brown's are talented and the tattoo's were not bad too!
